Five Cocktails for Summer

Ohhh, summer. During these summer months, we love to surround ourselves with our favourite people, whether that be our loved ones, best friends, colleagues, family members, or all of the above! Summer is packed with so many memorable moments. All of the barbecues, bridal showers, bonfires, beach days, and patio nights…

It is the best time to get creative and enjoy some amazing cocktails with your favourite people, while keeping your distance, of course. So, we’re going to share five of our favourite recipes, and we hope that you try them and love them too!

The Italian Margarita

You may be wondering what the difference between a standard margarita and an Italian margarita is. Well, instead of using an orange liqueur, we are going to use an Italian liqueur, like Amoretto, limoncello, or Aperol. We personally love using Disaronno Amoretto. And of course, an Italian margarita is made with tequila of your choice and fresh lemon and lime juice. Once you have all of the goods, just pour and shake well! Here is the list of ingredients for one margarita:

  • 1 ½ oz tequila

  • 1 oz Italian liqueur

  • ½ small lemon juice

  • 1 small lime juice

  • 1 tbsp salt + sugar for rim

  • Ice

This cocktail is the perfect mix of fresh and sweet, and it’s perfect to serve your guests. Once the ingredients are collected, it can be made in just a moments time!

The Grapefruit Mojito

If you’re looking for a light, fresh, and aesthetically pleasing drink for the summer, you have to try the grapefruit mojito. This drink is the perfect way to use up some fresh mint from your herb garden! Let’s take a look at the ingredients for one grapefruit mojito.

  • 1 oz rum

  • 1 oz club soda

  • 2 oz fresh grapefruit juice

  • ½ oz fresh lime juice

  • About eight mint leaves

  • Grapefruit wedge for garnish

  • Ice

Once all of your ingredients are collected, place half of the mint leaves in your glass and muddle them lightly to help induce the flavor. Then, mix in the rum, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and the ice. Lastly, top off the glass with a splash of club soda, and garnish with extra mint leaves and grapefruit wedge. You’re done!

Moscow Mule

The Moscow mule is the perfect balance of spicy, sweet, and refreshing, as it is made with a blend of vodka-spiked ginger beer and lime juice. Making this cocktail is as simple as mixing all three ingredients over ice and garnishing however you’d like!

We recommend using Tito’s or Smirnoff vodka, and our go-to ginger beer is made by Great Jamaican; however, you can choose whatever brands you prefer. The ingredients listed make two Moscow mules.

  • 4 oz vodka

  • 1 12 oz bottle/can ginger beer

  • 1 lime juiced

  • 2 lime wedges for garnish

  • Ice

This drink is so simple yet so perfect for summer. Just mix all of the ingredients together over ice, and garnish with lime wedges + mint sprigs and you have one delicious drink!

Citrus Rosemary Spanish Gin + Tonic

Gin + tonic will forever be a classic drink. However, there are so many ways to get creative and spice it up for your guests in the summertime. This recipe includes a Spanish gin that will give you all the vibes of being on vacation in Barcelona. We recommend Botica Spanish gin, and if you want to take your cocktail to the next level, you could opt for the Botica Valencian Orange Gin, to give it that extra citrus taste.

  • 1 ½ oz Spanish gin

  • 7 oz tonic water

  • Clementine, tangerine or mandarin wedges

  • 1-2 sprigs fresh rosemary

  • Ice

Once you have all of the ingredients, just mix together over ice in a glass and top with your choice of citrus fruit wedges and some fresh rosemary for garnish. You and your guests will love this spin on a classic drink! So refreshing.

This Italian cocktail will quickly become a summer favorite. Not only do they look beautiful, but they are the perfect balance of sweet and refreshing. Not to mention, they are very simple to make! Perfect to sip by the pool and into these warm summer nights on the patio.

  • 1 oz Campari

  • 1 oz gin

  • 1 oz sweet red vermouth

  • 1-2 orange peels

  • Ice

First, you’ll need to mix together the Campari, gin and red vermouth or shake to combine. On the side, fill a glass with ice and run one or two orange peels around the rim of the glass, then add the cocktail and garnish with the orange peel, so easy!
